The Daily Prayer: April 2, 2020

Devotion by Pastor Scott

April 2, 2020

When I write these devotions, my normal pattern is to ask God to give me something to say, a scripture to share. God has been faithful to do that. Today’s verse that God put on my heart was from Isaiah 30:15:

“This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it."

For some of us, this has been a very busy time. The medical professionals on the front lines, the grocery store clerks, teachers reaching out to their students. For many of us, it hasn’t. Some of you have told me that while you hate what is happening to people and to the economy, you have enjoyed begin with your families, staying at home and getting to do things that were on your to-do list.

There is a difference between not doing anything and finding rest. According to Isaiah 30:15, as we confess our sins, as we find our strength and power from him, we will find rest. This time of self isolation is a great time for you to grow in the Lord.

Notice how the verse ends, “but you would have none of it.” How tragic would it be that in this time of global pandemic, we do not seek the Lord on behalf of others and for our nation. How tragic would it be to ‘be busy’ doing many good things yet resist the rest and salvation we find in Christ. Church, find your peace and strength in the Lord today.
